How do I become a substitute teacher with Scoot in California?

Our hiring process is simple and done on Fountain, our applicant screening software.

Online application

  1. Start the application process by going to the following URL: https://www.fountain.com/scoot-education/apply/united-states-substitute-teacher?utm_source=Wordpress2020

  2. Fill out basic information such as your name, email, and phone number.

  3. You’ll then be redirected to Fountain where you’ll complete the initial questionnaire to start the hiring process.

  4. Upload your resume. No worries if you don’t have one. You can indicate that you don’t have a resume and you’ll be redirected to another section that asks basic questions about your professional background.

  5. Hit submit and you’ve now finished the first part of the application! If your application is accepted, you’ll be contacted within 2-5 business days for a phone screening.

Phone screening

If your application is accepted, you’ll be invited to schedule a quick phone call.

This is NOT an interview. The purpose of this phone call is to get to know you better as we go over your submitted application.

If you’re approved to move forward, you’ll be contacted again to schedule a formal interview.

Before the interview

You’re required to complete two Fountain prompts before you’re ready to interview.

  1. Answer questions about your CA teaching credential or permit.

    1. You can look up your credential/permit information on the CTC website under the 'Search' tab.

    2. We recommend performing a Secured Search using your DOB and SSN.

    3. If you hold more than two valid credentials or permits please let your Scoot consultant know during your interview.

  2. Upload your CBEST or basic skills information.

After the interview part 1: Official documents

If you had a stellar interview, your consultant will email you to complete the next steps of the hiring process.

You’ll be asked to upload/submit the following:

  1. Identification documents

  2. ​​Three references including at least one supervisor

    1. We contact these references via email, text and/or phone to review your previous work experience.

  3. Request for Live Scan form

    1. You’ll be given instructions on how to complete your live scan.

    2. All tests are paid for by Scoot via WellnessMart. There are no upfront costs to become a Scoot educator.

  4. Tuberculosis clearance

    1. Assessment or test dates must be in the last 60 days.

  5. Payroll information

    1. This is so you can start getting paid right away!

After the interview part 2: Mandatory training

After submitting all of your required document, you’ll be asked to complete three short training courses and quizzes on the following topics:

  1. Bloodborne Pathogens

  2. Mandated Reporter

  3. Sexual Harassment

Offer letter

If everything goes smoothly, we’ll send you an offer letter! Woohoo!

We perform a final check, then your consultant will email you with instructions on how to download our Scoot 2 Work app and receive school assignments.
