Employees are generally entitled to a paid 10-minute, duty-free rest break for every four (4) hours worked, or major fraction thereof. Rest breaks should be taken as close as possible to the middle of each work period and may not be combined with meal breaks or used to shorten the workday. Because rest breaks are paid, they are considered time worked and do not need to be recorded separately on timesheets.
During a rest break, employees are relieved of all work duties and are free to spend the time as they choose. Employees should not be discouraged from taking rest breaks, asked to work during a break, or directed on how to spend their personal time. Employees may be asked to schedule rest breaks in a way that supports the needs of their assignment or worksite.
If you are unable to take a required rest break, your break is interrupted, shortened, delayed, or you are required to work during your break, notify your Scoot Consultant as soon as possible.
